Catherine Pooler Zen Garden Release Blog Hop

Catherine Pooler Zen Garden
Welcome to the last day of the Zen Garden blog hop. What do you think of all the new inks, stamps and dies? Aren’t they just gorgeous?

During today’s blog hop we focus on the Stained Glass Cover Plate and the Faithful Flutterings stamp. My first project is using the larger butterfly and the new Split Chevron stencil from the Zen Garden release.

I started by blending Seafoam, Skylight and Stone Blue through the stencil. After I was done, I splattered the same colors all over the card to “mess it up” a little more.

Next up, I stamped the layered butterfly onto a piece of vellum using Shea Butter, Sauna and Polished (my favorite combo). Because the ink is very juicy, I had to heat set it before fuzzy cutting.

Then I adhered the stenciled piece onto the dark grey card stock from Catherine Pooler, wrapped a bow around it and added it to the card base. Then I adhered the butterfly to the top.

The front was already rather busy, so I decided to add the sentiment to the inside of the card.

For my next card, I heat embossed three feathers and die cut them. Then I adhered them on a background that I embossed using the Stained Glass Cover Plate. The sympathy sentiment from the Faithful Fluttering stamp set was the perfect fit for this card.

Of course, I wanted to create an actual stained glass effect. For that, I die cut a piece of white card stock with the Stained Glass Cover Plate and adhered it onto a piece of vellum.

I used my favorite ink smooshing technique for the colorful background. It’s super easy. You just smear the ink onto a craft mat, add a little water and drag the paper through the ink. Then heat set it between each layer and finish once you have the effect that you are looking for. I didn’t want to steal any attention from the background, so I just adhered a thank you in white with a black shadow on top.
