Not a flower for everyone’s garden – a project with n*studio

Colorful flower

Last month’s theme over at Nathalie’s blog was Colors are my Friend and I created a floral page for my art journal using her foam stamps. Colors are my friends, definitely! My favorite one depends on my mood, but usually I tend to pick orange or green tones. Today I wanted to use my favorite color combination though, which is orange and blue. These are complimentary colors, which means they naturally work well together. Since days I have something with flowers in my head, so I wanted to use the new circle foam stamps to create a flower in my …

Be in love with your life – Art journal page

You know I love letting loose in my art journal and this page is one of those 🙂 Life is great at the moment, so – be in love with your life – seems to be a good theme. I used some green and blue tones for the background and then decorated the page using some Art Anthology stencils and other embellishments. You can follow my process here: This time the video has music for the background. I’m sorry about that, but I was in a hurry (other life’s work…) and didn’t want to leave you without my tutorial 😉 …

The world is my playground art journal page

The world is my playground art journal page with Art Anthology

The world is my playground. Sometimes this is the best way to approach an empty page. Probably everyone had a moment in their crafty life where they were sitting in front of their art journal and then…. nothing. I definitely had those situations and here is what I do: I grab several shades from the same color (for example a few blue shades) and then just dunk my brush into the jar and start painting. The moment I do that, the ideas start flowing. Sometimes the pages end up very bold, sometimes with just a few layers. No matter how …

How to create a mixed media underwater scene with Art Anthology

How to create a mixed media underwater scene with Art Anthology

Finally, my little mermaid has a home. I put the Julie Nutting doll together weeks ago and was always thinking about an underwater scene that would be worthy. Today’s project is showing you how I created the ocean scene using Art Anthology products. The trick was to start with a black background, so I gessoed my page with black Gesso. I was not careful at all and the page turned out quite messy. Not that I’m worried about that 😉 My tutorial video shows you how I put the page together, so you can see exactly what layers I added. …

Make a wish – art journal page with creepy paper dolls and Art Anthology

Make a wish art journal page with Art Anthology and Tim Holtz

I’m back at the Art Anthology blog, today with a “make a wish” art journal page. This was one of those pages where I just started and at first didn’t know where it will go. But when I realized that I added quite a few stars to it, I knew what I had to do 🙂 I just recently bought a package of these burlap stars over at Blitsy and had to incorporate one of them. And I think that the ticket and the creepy paper doll finished the page up really nicely. When I first saw them, I didn’t …

Let’s address the elephant in the room – an art journal page with StencilGirl

Let's address the elephant in the room - an art journal page with StencilGirl

Yay for a new art journal page. I recently ordered a couple of StencilGirl stencils and had to try a few of them. For this art journal page I used two of Nathalie Kalbach’s stencil. (Supplies are listed at the bottom of the article 😉 ) I started with a mono printed page. I used a red and green Paper Artsy paint, spread them out on my Gel Press and cut it a little smaller, so it fits into my art journal. Then I used the elephant mask to cover an area and added paint through a second stencil. Next …

Bonjour – French art journal page with Julie Nutting and Paper Artsy

French art journal page with Julie Nutting and Paper Artsy

Bonjour everyone. It’s incredibly warm at the moment and I don’t want to move at all 😛 So I decided to create some Julie Nutting dolls while sitting on the couch. Minimal movement, but I’m didn’t waste a day. After I was done cutting and adhering some of the dolls, I had an idea for a french art journal page. Thankfully, I just received my order of Paper Artsy paints, so I had the idea and the perfect color palette ready. I started with adhering that scrap piece of paper onto my page and covering the page in two layers …

How to create a shiny art journal page using Distress Oxide & Emerald Creek

Colorful art journal page with shiny hearts using Distress Oxide and Emerald Creek embossing powder

Yesterday’s prompt over at Nathalie Kalbach’s Artful Adventure challenge was shiny and instead of finding anything shiny at home, I created a shiny art journal page using Distress Oxide for the background and Emerald Creek embossing powder for the shiny hearts. I started with adhering pieces of an old German book onto my page. Then I added a layer of clear gesso. Next I used my Clarity stencil brushes to blend 4 of the Distress Oxide colors together… …and added some water splashes to add more interest to the background. Then I added the bigger umbrella girl silhouette by blending …

Taking time out of my busy days for a new art journal page

Art Journal page with Stencilgirl and TCW stencils, Liquitex and Dylusions paint

Sometimes life is really busy. For me it is right now, phew. The last week was just full of work, but I still managed to do something for 5 minutes everyday. It just helps me to close out the day and calm me down, at least a little 😛 This art journal page is rather simple and basically every of the progress pictures was made on a different day, lol. But it’s the result that’s important, not the time needed to finish. I started with an Art Anthology stencil and some Dina paint. I love applying heavy body acrylics with …
