Wow, I’m in aaaw with Kristie’s stencils for the February StencilClub. Can you already see all the gorgeous backgrounds that you can create with them? I have done so many art journal pages lately that I thought this time I’m creating mixed media greeting cards with Kristie’s stencils as the focal background (lol).
But which medium to chose? After staring at my supplies for a while, I decided to use Ken Oliver Color Burst. I put the 9×12 stencil on top of some watercolor paper and then carefully sprinkled the powder all over it. The stencil was big enough to create two backgrounds at one time. When spritzing the water on top you have to be a little careful to not accidentally blow the powder all over the place. I used the same technique for another background, but with the 6×6 stencil.
I tried a few other backgrounds, but decided later that I’m not going to use them all. One of the backgrounds ended up being the focal point for one of the cards. I used the 4×4 stencil and thought that it looks like a ship’s wheel, so I outlined it with a black Posca pen and cut it out. I added a few polka dots to the grip. Then I used a piece of an old school book, covered in Gesso, adhered it onto a slightly bigger piece of vellum and added the ship wheel on top of both. A bit of sewing string was the perfect touch for it. At the end I adhered it onto the blue background with the small pattern.
For another card, I used the other background with the smallest pattern and added a layer of white texture paste on top. After that was dry, I added one of the paper dolls with some Viva Las Vegas wings to the card. The wings are white heat embossed. The sentiment “with brave wings she flies” was the perfect fit.
For card number 3 – the one with the 6×6 background – I cut a piece of vellum and stamped the squiggle heart from Viva Las Vegas using black embossing powder. To adhere the vellum on top of the background, I carefully added glue behind the heart.
If you haven’t signed up for StencilClub yet, you can do so here. If you sign up before the 15th of the month, your first set will be this one 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!
