You might have seen that I started teaching classes in my local craft store Scrapbooking Forever and I prefer to teach techniques. I think showing how to use a product in different ways is more interesting than one project using tons of products and learning just one technique per product. While preparing one of my classes this is one of the cards I created as an example. I like mixed media, so I created a mixed media card with So Suzy Stamps, Ken Oliver Color Burst and Finnabair embellishments. All supplies used are listed at the end of the page.
I started by heat embossing the So Suzy Stamps sentiment with white embossing powder. Because I used anti static powder before sprinkling the powder on top of the card stock, I had some white residue left. Here’s a simple trick: after the powder is cold, use a regular eraser and “erase” the white pwoder and voila – black card stock 😛
Now on to the fun part. I use a plastic box to put my water color paper inside, sprinkle the Ken Oliver powders onto the paper and spritz water all over it. When everything is messing around, I don’t need to worry about my table 😉
Ken Oliver Color Burst are very vibrant, so you don’t need a lot of powder to get an effect like that.
Before adhering everything down, I colored a piece of lace with Lindy’s Magical powder (this stuff stains fabric…) and wrapped it around the card base. At the end I prepared a black piece of card stock for the background and arranged all the Finnabair embellishments. I always try to balance them. If I put some things into one corner, I try to put some more into the opposite corner. That helps to visually balance the card.
