There Is An Angel On My Canvas

Angel on my CanvasI started with this canvas a while ago and I finally finished it last weekend. This time I remembered to take pictures throughout the process, so you get a better idea of how I created it. Because I had to wait for things to dry all the time, it took me about two weeks to finish it. Of course, I didn’t work every single day on it 🙂

Btw, at the beginning I had no idea what I want to do with the canvas, I just started and everything came together one step after the other. Basically I started with the tissue paper and a couple of days later I had an idea about what colors to use, then about the focal point of the image, and so on till I had this beautiful angel on my canvas. Till Saturday, I didn’t know that it would look like this 🙂

I will list all supplies used at the very bottom, I think that makes it easier to read for you and easier to write for me as well.

I started by covering the entire the canvas in white Gesso first and tissue paper from Tim Holtz afterwards. I tried to keep the big butterfly and the “memories” text in focus.

Now I grabbed the Dylusions, Dina Wakley, and Distress Paints and blended them together.

Then I added the girl with black Dylusions paint through the Clarity stencil, outlined her with a white Posca pen (acrylic paint) and added the first wing with Faber Castell texture paste. I also stenciled the first tree on the right.

After the first wing was dry, I added a second one. The shadow is made with a black water pencil. I also added a couple more branches using the same stencil as before and stamped a couple of leaves to the bottom. To add a little more “creepy-ness” to the right site, I die cut a couple of birds from black card stock.

Now I wrapped the purple ribbon around the two edges on the right. I thought that it looked a little bit like a spider web, so I added some confetti spiders. This image shows the still wet Gel Medium.

I also colored her dress with the white Posca pen and colored her “aura” with silver Wink of Stella.

Here you can see her aura around her, the wings and the umbrella, plus the shiny texture paste.

And a final picture from the angel on my canvas directly from the front.

I hope you enjoyed my mixed media canvas and feel encouraged to start one on your own. You never know what it will be at the end 😉
